In this series of large scale photographs, a collection of 20th century porcelain tchotchkes made in Occupied Japan, idealizing notions of whiteness, beauty and aristocracy become undermined by a singular black porcelain figurine. Named “Queen Bea”, she defies becoming a stereotypic creature, sitting front and center and commands court.
